Mood Changes
Depressed or Irritable Mood
- Most teenagers with depression will present as being very irritable even though most people think “sad” when thinking about Major Depression
- There’s a difference between normal teenager irritability and that seen in depression
- In depression, the mood change is seen in all aspects of life
- In some teenagers, the prominent mood disturbance is numbness or not feeling anything
Decreased Interest or Pleasure in Activities
- Depression affects people individually and each person experiences this symptom differently as it is based on the person’s usual interest
- It is the activities that normally the person would always enjoy that all of a sudden do not bring pleasure or joy
